# First steps

The materialAssist app is part of our product sets for material management:

- [Edgeband Management Set](/v1/docs/en/produkt-sets-edgeband-management-set-erste-schritte)
- [Cutting Production Set](/v1/docs/en/produkt-sets-cutting-production-set-erste-schritte)

Each set has different components:

- [materialManager](/v1/docs/en/materialmanager-tutorial-erste-schritte) for managing materials in work preparation
- Printers, [labels](/v1/docs/en/produkt-sets-kurz-erklaert-etiketten-und-regalbeschriftungen), LED strips (optional)
- [CUBE-voraussetzungen-netzwerk" target="_blank">HOMAG CUBE](/v1/docs/en/geraete-hardware-homag-<span class=) (Intelligent control box for connecting the shelf and the printer to the Internet and apps)

Optionally, a [Bluetooth scanner](/v1/docs/en/allgemeines-faq-empfohlene-hardware) can be added and used.

The materialAssist app is used in the workshop to manage different materials.

How HOMAG's Edge Assistant works

In the following video tutorial and on the following pages you will find instructions for [the procedure for adding](/v1/docs/en/materialassist-tutorial-hinzufuegen-eines-materials), [storing](/v1/docs/en/materialassist-tutorial-einlagern-eines-materials) and [removing](/v1/docs/en/materialassist-tutorial-entnehmen-eines-materials) using an edge band coil. The procedure for other materials is comparable.

In this video, we show you how to add new plates and edgebands in the materialAssist app, record the consumption of existing material, and store and retrieve it.

materialAssist is an application for the workshop to manage and track boards and edgebands. It supports employees in adding, storing, removing, and identifying boards and edgebands, and provides transparency about inventories and storage locations.

Edgeband Management Set is a solution for the digital management of edge bands in the workshop. It combines the materialManager for master data maintenance with materialAssist for warehouse and inventory processes and can be supplemented by other hardware components such as label printers, scanners or LED displays.

Edge band coil is a coiled unit made of edge material for edging workpieces. It is managed via material and inventory data.
