Offcuts

Prev Next

To manage Offcuts in a targeted manner, you can set various parameters for them.

Evaluation of leftovers

The minimum size of the Offcut Value have a very strong influence on the material costs. Since intelliDivide calculates Alternative solutions and takes into account material costs, the evaluation of Offcuts can influence how likely Offcuts are to be reused.

If there are leftovers of a material and the leftovers are valued low in terms of cost, there is a high probability that one of the calculated solutions prefers Offcuts . The prerequisite is that the material costs are correctly invested in materialManager .

In the following example, a small Offcut is valued at 30% of the material cost. The value is set very low, because in relation to the material value, there is a great deal of effort for handling (printing a label, storage, retrieval, inventory). Furthermore, small leftovers are often difficult to reuse. Small leftovers should be avoided if possible and reused quickly.

A large remainder is valued at 80% of the material costs in the example. The value of a large remainder is comparable to a Board. The effort required for handling is in good proportion to the material value. Nevertheless, these leftovers should also be avoided if possible and reused quickly.

Ein Beispiel dafür, wie Reste bewertet werden können.

An example of how leftovers can be valued.

The material costs are made up as follows:

A plate is used for optimization. Based on the cost of €10 per m² and the size of 3.125 m², the cost is €31.25 (1).

Two remnants are created during cutting. According to the settings for the valuation of the remainders, a credit note is created.

The small remainder (2) is valued at 30%,  i.e. 3 € / m². The remainder, which is around 0.5 m² in size, thus has a value of €1.51.

The large rest (3) is valued at 80%,  i.e. 8 € / m². The remainder, which is around 2.1 m² in size, is thus worth €16.80.

The material costs are thus made up of the costs for the plate 31.25 € (1) and the credits for the small remainder 1.51 € and the large remainder (3) 16.80 €. This results in material costs of € 12.93.

Subsequently, the large remainder is reused in one order.

Im Beispiel entsteht bei der Optimierung ein kleiner und ein großer Rest.

In the example, the optimization creates a small and a large remainder.

The imputed costs for the large remainder amount to € 16.80 (80% of € 10 / m² x 2.1 m²) from the credit note from the previous order. Two small residues are created, which are credited as before. The total material costs thus amount to € 12.06.

Setting the minimum size of the leftovers

Minimum size remainders: Leftovers that correspond to this size are managed in the Manual Offcut Storage . Smaller parts are treated as waste.

Minimum size of large remnants: Remnants that correspond to this size are returned to the Automated Storage .

Residual rating: The lower the value in the Offcut Value field, the more likely it is that a remainder will be included in the next optimization.

Einstellung der Mindestgröße für Reste

Setting the minimum size for leftovers

With the option "Shred leftovers", the leftovers can be shredded according to the set values when splitting on CNC machines. In addition to the feed rate and tool number, the grid width in mm can also be set here.

Under the "Leftover Sizes" tab in the "Machine Parameters" dialog, the minimum sizes of the hand leftovers (minimum length, minimum width and minimum usable area) can be stored. At this point, too, the software suggests default values that can be used.

As an alternative to the settings in the machine parameters in intelliDivide, you can store parameters for residues in the "Optimization" area of the materialManager depending on the material. To do this, activate the option "Use material-dependent parameters".

Material-Dependent Optimization Parameters for Leftovers

In the materialManager, you can group materials based on their common properties and store parameters for leftovers depending on the material .

This grouping makes it possible to set different minimum sizes for leftovers depending on the properties of a material. For example, in the case of cheap Material , the formation of residues can be dispensed with, as the amount of action required is disproportionate to the material value. In the case of expensive material, on the other hand, the formation of very small residues can be allowed, as the additional effort is worthwhile here.

Efficiency is optimized through cost reduction and reduced effort.

Für "Teure Materialien" kann die Erzeugung auch von kleinen Resten zugelassen werden.

For "expensive materials", the production of small residues can also be permitted.

Für "Günstiges Material" kann die Erzeugung von Resten komplett deaktiviert werden.

For "Cheap Material", the generation of leftovers can be completely deactivated.

If the function is activated, the material group for each material is stored under the "Plates" tab in the "Remains" column (2). This column can be added via the table settings (1). If adjustments are necessary, it is also possible to navigate directly to the group in materialManager (3).

Deactivating Residue Generation in CAdmatic

To ensure that only the residues determined by intelliDivide are generated and that no additional residues are generated in CADmatic, you must deactivate the generation of additional residues in CADmatic on your machine.

To do this, first open the settings regarding production (2) in CADmatic under Additional Apps (1). Below that, navigate to the material settings (3).

The corresponding settings are located in the higher-level material settings under the "Leftover Parameters" category. To disable remnant generation, select the Generated Managed Resivers option to Disabled.
